Governor Babatunde Fashola ( SAN), of Lagos State, has called on states in the old western region , to effectively collaborate, using pension funds to drive public service productivity under its Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN).
The Governor at the 7th retirement bond certificate presentation to retirees, said the region should re – enact the pace setting developmental agenda of the 1960s and 70s, by seeking alternative sources of funds that will ensure constant availability of funds for developmental projects.
He expressed confidence that the Development Agenda for Western Nigeria (DAWN), would bring a new dawn in the development of the region, individual states and the nation in general.
Lagos State, had In fulfillment of pledges made to ensure its workers retire in comfort, had as at December 2012, credited the Retirement Savings Account (RSA) of 2, 539 retirees of the state civil service, with the sum of Thirteen Billion, nine hundred and ten million, one hundred and eighty seven thousand, seven hundred and thirty two naira, forty seven kobo (N13,910,187,732.47). The sum includes gratuity and pension benefits for entitlements under the old scheme.
A breakdown shows that as at August 2012, government had credited the RSA of one thousand, nine hundred and thirty five retirees with the sum of Ten Billion, Three Hundred and thirty Three Million, two hundred and ninety one thousand, two hundred and fifty naira, ninety kobo (N10, 333, 291, 250. 90k) while Three Billion, Five hundred and seventy six million, eight hundred and ninety six thousand, four hundred and eighty one naira, fifty seven kobo (N3, 576, 896, 481, 57), was recently transferred to the RSA of 604 retirees.
