It was grand home call for High Chief (Dr.) Daniel Rufus Akinola, as he left for the great beyond amidst tears of joy and tributes from friends, family members and well wishers.
From the services of song, wake keep, commendation church service, burial and reception, it was encomium unlimited.
According to his wife, Chief (Mrs.) Grace Ejiola Akinola (IP), Your last word to me recharged me with the responsibility of looking after all you left behind, especially your children, to give cogent motherly advice when necessary and never allow them to derail from the norms of society. This shall be fulfilled by the grace of God. I treasure every moment we spent together and wish it could be longer but i have the consolation in the fact that you are in a better place resting with the Lord.
His daughter, Mrs. Ajoke Oladapo, “I can never forget my father’s commitment to our success in life, his care and love knew no bounds. He personally with his driver took me to Jos in 1973 for my NYSC and came after the service to bring me back home. As soon as I started working in 1974, he gave me a brand new car with a driver”.
Another daughter, Evangelist Molakun Bankole (nee Akinola), “When I was engulfed in the challenges of life and felt deeply hurt, lonely and forsaken, you were there for me. You lifted me up with words of encouragement and prayer”.
His son, Akinlolu Akinola (Bosco), “It gladdens me greatly seeing you embrace Christ before your demise in the presence of bros Ben and Rotimi, painful that you did not take the last cup of tea demanded for. I admire the commitment and personal value you inculcated into your children family relationship”.
Grand daughter, Modele Omotayo, “Grandpa inspired us in many ways. We all respected him and will miss him deeply. What I admire most about my grand father was that, he was a man of peace, full of joy and strong in faith”.
High Chief (Dr) Daniel Rufus Akinola JP, was born on 14* April, 1919 to the royal family of Oba Jisowo (Oyahaluren), the Osemawe of Ondo kingdom. He lost his father at the age of 3 in 1922 and his mother in 1938 while he was at All Saints Primary School in 1936. He however passed his standard six examination in 1938.
He worked as a clerk with John Holts Produce Depot between 1939 -1948, under the supervision of late High Chief Ayodele James. After leaving John Holt in 1948, he became a produce buying agent for Rowntree Fry Cadbury at Ilawe – Ekiti and Idanre till 1957. Subsequently, he became an agent of Fionis Brothers between 1957 and 1960.
He was later Managing Director of Ondo Trading and Transport Company from 1960-1965 and much later a licensed buying agent for the Western Regional Government Marketing Board, between 1965 and 1979, operating under the registed company, D.R. Akinola & Co. Limited, registered 48 years ago.
An avowed community leader, High Chief Akinola was selected from Ondo District Council, alongside other representatives to represent the old Ondo Province at the Ondo State Creation Committee which deliberated on the name for the state, capital etc, represented Osemawe Adekolurejo with late Chief Ayadi Olubusade at the presentation of staff of office to Owa Obokun, Adimula of Ijeshaland, Late Lisa of Ondo Kingdom, High Chief Oladapo and late High Chief Akinola represented Ondo
Kingdom for the Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) to be sited in Ondo town. He was also a member of the Oke Owena / Kolawole Boundary Dispute Committee and equally a member of the Ondo / Oke – Igbo boundary dispute.
The late Sasere was a 1994 Ekimogun Merit Award winner, Patron, Ekimogun Club 74, Lagos, Chairman, Ondo Consumers Association, Life Member, Full Gospel Business Men’s Fellowship, Orisun Imole chapter, Chairman, Fish Farmers Association & Aqua Culture , Ondo State, Life Member, Bible Society of Nigeria, since 1964, Vice Chairman, former Ondo Province, Western Region Cocoa Marketing Board Buying Agents, Chairman, Obaferere Market Staff Allocation Committee, Director, Ekimogun Ventures Limited, Ondo and Patron, Ondo Local Government Farmers Union.
Sasere Akinola was Chairman, Ondo Municipal Security Guards Committee, Zone 3, member, Osemawe Installation Committee, Chairman, Gbose Ijama Quarter: O”, Honourary member, Rotary International Club of Ondo, Patron, Cocoa Women Association of Nigeria (COWAN) among others.
