It was joy unlimited in Akungba Akoko, as a combined team of men of the State Security Service and policemen from the Ondo State Command rescued the Regent of Akungba-Akoko, Princess Oluwatoyin Omosowon, after two weeks in captivity of kidnappers.
The monarch was abducted near Owo in Ondo State on June 2, this year but was rescued in Edo State.
The operation also witnessed the rescue of the Regent’s driver Aliu Jelili, a corps member, Azubike Ijeoma, an Indian, Alex John Thekinathy and his orderly Obute Sunday.
An obviously elated Governor Olusegun Mimiko , expressed delight for the successful operation and promised stiffer penalty for kidnappers in the state. He promised amending the existing law on kidnapping in the state, as a way of eradicating the obnoxious act in the state.
The Governor congratulated the people of Akungba Akoko for maintaining the peace during their trying period and also promised that the full wrath of the law would be made to bear on culprits.
