A warning has gone to Nigerians and those who have faith in federalism and nation building, that something fast has to be done to strengthen national unity, otherwise the country will fall apart to sectionalism and ethnicity.
He blamed part of the problem on twisted federalism, adding that a way out was for the Federal Government to practice true federalism.
Speaking on insecurity in the country, Governor Rotimi Akeredolu who spoke at his second term inaugural lecture in Akure, said the South West governors battle is against criminals and criminality and not any ethnic nationality.
Akeredolu stated categorically that the governors of the South West and the people would use all legal means to return the region to peace and tranquility.
He called on all citizens of the South West to be security conscious and use all legal means to resist insecurity.
While stating his belief in true federalism and a United Nigeria, he said Nigerians should stop self denial and accept present realities of a weak federalism.
All citizens, he said, should therefore rise up and support the Nigerian project, adding that the time to act is now.
The Governor urged the people to respect themselves, tolerate others, live with mutual respect, love and harmony.
