Ondo State has been named as one of the seven states selected to pilot the Ministerial Housing Scheme under the National Housing Fund programme.
Chairman , Federal Mortgage Bank, Nigeria, Chief Olabisi Ogunjobi , speaking in Akure, Ondo State capital, during a courtesy call on Governor Olusegun Miniko in his office, said that he was in Ondo State to introduce the National Housing Fund Scheme to workers in the state and intimate them of derivable benefits. Ogunjobi said the Federal Government through his organization resolved to put in place the programme, with the aim of providing housing opportunities for Nigerians, especially Nigerian workers.
The Chairman, Federal of Mortgage Bank expressed readiness to partner the Government of Ondo State in prevailing on its workers to start contributing to the National Housing Scheme which will give them the opportunity of securing affordable houses. He explained that the pilot project is a tripartite arrangement between states, the Federal Mortgage bank and the Federal Ministry of Housing and Urban Development, adding that it is expected to take off with one hundred and five (105) housing units in the seven pilot states.
According to Ogunjobi, by the arrangement states will make available land, Federal Ministry of Housing will provide workmanship, while the Federal Mortgage Bank would provide funds.
He expressed confidence that the programme will be beneficial to workers in Ondo State, if they agree to join the national contributory housing scheme of the Federal Government.
Governor Olusegun Mimiko , commended the Federal Government for putting in place such a programme which according to him , would enable ordinary citizens own houses without much stress. He however, expressed the fear that it might be a difficult task for him to persuade workers in his state to participate in the housing fund, as they had once pulled out of the scheme for alleged discrepancies and still nurse doubts on its workability.
The Governor noted that his administration had on its part executed numerous housing projects with hundred per cent acceptance from the people, adding that people are competing for them in their various locations in the state.
Mimiko promised to leverage on the opportunity provided by the Federal Government to make houses affordable for the people of Ondo State.
