Sunshine Stars Football Club of Akure acquired the three points at stake against FC Ifeanyi Ubah in their Nigeria Professional Football League encounter.
With the Stars playing home at the Ondo State Sports Complex, Akure, they showed superiority over their eastern opponents by a lone goal.
The decisive goal was scored by midfielder Omojesu Ogunniyi in the ninth minute for a 1-0 win.
Sunshine Stars’ Head Coach, Gbenga Ogunbote, who said he was optimistic his team would get better as the league progressed, called for patience from fans and club supporters, stating that the most important thing was his team clinching the three points at stake.
“The team is a team in the making. I am very sure we will become a team to beat in no distant time. Winning will ease pressure on the team and the management.
The coach however called for support and understanding from the home fans, adding that, “We will make adjustment where it’s necessary.”
The goal scorer, Ogunniyi, who was named the Man of the match, expressed happiness scoring the lone goal that gave his team victory.
Head Coach of FC IfeanyiUbah, Uche Okagbue, stated that he was not happy his team failed to convert the goalscoring chances they had.
He however, played down the loss, assuring that his team would win the reverse fixture during the season’s second round.
Sunshine Stars now has three points from two matches with the victory.
