As accolades continue to trail the State Government’s rural development drive, the Chairman, Local Government Service Commission, Mr Sadiq Obanoyen , has said that the Mimiko administration has completed over 200 community based projects, located in various parts of the state. The Chairman said the success was achieved because, “ officials of the Ministry of Community Development would ask the communities what projects they desire and government would finance them. There is no community you will get to, that you will not see the landmark of this government; be it water project, housing scheme; cottage industries; town hall buildings or electrification projects . They are provided based on the needs of the people.
Mr Obanoyen who reeled pathetic statistics of poor sanitation, 1.8b deaths annually, with ninety percent (90 %) being children under five years, said in order to improve on the environmental sanitation of the state and reduce child maternal death, Local Government Chairmen were mandated to ensure they handle sanitation matters in their councils as a fundamental issue.
Furthermore, the Chairman of the Commission, said low sanitation challenges are being experienced in major urban centres, as many residents are enlightened. The reverse is the case in rural areas, where public enlightenment of these ailments is low.
Commending the Mimiko administration for its marked transformation of markets in the state. Mr Obanoyen explained that, “ If you had been to any market in this state before , you will appreciate the transformation that is going on now. Few years ago, if you went to Isinkan market in Akure, especially during the rainy season, you won’t criticize the State Government for building new markets. Any body passing through the place at night, will see the beauty of Akure.
